Christmas at LFMC, 2016 -- Hope is Here

Hope is Here!

Our theme for the 2016 Christmas season is "Hope is Here!" It's been a rough year for our nation and for our world, and it's been a tough one for many of us individually. The world that Jesus was born into was desperate for some word of encouragement, as well, and in the gospel of Matthew we find that Jesus came to fulfill prophetic words spoken long, long ago--words like these:

A bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out,
till he has brought justice through to victory.
In his name the nations will put their hope. (Matthew 12:20-21, NIV)

We pray that whether your heart is bruised or overflowing with joy, this Christmas season will prove to be a season of hope for you, because Jesus knows your name, because he knows what you have been through, and because he has genuine hope and a future for you. Come celebrate with us!

Advent begins November 27! Advent is one of the most important seasons in the church calendar, and it begins the first Sunday after Thanksgiving. Each week at our Sunday worship services, we will take some time to reflect on what Advent is about, and on the symbolism of the Advent wreath and candle. Plus, we will provide some resources for you and your family to help make the most of this Advent season, and to help you prepare for a joyous celebration of the birth of our Savior!  Click here for Advent resources!

Join us for one of our Christmas services at LFMC! Three identical services on Friday and Saturday (December 23 and 24--see schedule below) will allow you to pick a time and date that works best for you and your family and friends. These services will be joyous celebrations of the birth of Jesus, including reflections from Scripture, wonderful Christmas music, and a great family celebration for you, your family, and your friends. Here is the schedule:

  • Friday, December 23, 7:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 24, 4:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 24, 5:30 p.m.

Please feel free to invite family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers!

Sharing: We want to bless others during this season, so when you come to one of our Christmas services (or any time during the Advent season), if you are able, please bring a towel, or a pair of socks, or some body wash or deodorant--there is a collection tub in the lobby, and after our Christmas services, we will share these items with the Lawrence Community Shelter.

Please note: There will be a single worship service at 10:00am on Christmas Day (Dec. 25) and on New Year's Day (Jan. 1). Our regular worship schedule will resume on January 8.
