REVIEW:
Psalm 147:3 (NCV) God heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.
1. The first step in God’s healing process is to admit my hurts.
Psalm 39:2,3 (NCV)
I kept very quiet, but I became even more upset. I became very angry inside, and as I thought about it, my anger burned.
2. The second step in God’s healing process is to release those who’ve hurt me.
Forgiveness is the only way to be emotionally healthy.
TODAY: MORE STEPS IN GOD’S HEALING PROCESS
3. REPLACE OLD TAPES WITH GOD’S TRUTH.
Romans 12:2b (NLT)
...let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think…
How do we change the way we think?
A. By asking God to heal our memories.
B. By filling our mind with God’s Word.
Ephesians 1:4 (LB)
God chose us to be His very own, through what Christ would do for us, God decided to make us holy in His eyes, without a single fault—we stand before Him covered with His love.
Our self-esteem comes from what we think the most important person in our life thinks about us. So make Jesus the most important person in your life.
4. FOCUS ON THE FUTURE.
Job 11:13-16 (GN)
Put your heart right...reach out to God...then face the world again, firm and courageous. Then all your troubles will fade from your memory, like floods that are past and remembered no more.
Proverbs 4:25 (GN)
Look straight ahead with honest confidence; don’t hang your head in shame.
Our past is not our future.
5. RECEIVE SUPPORT FROM A SMALL GROUP.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NLT)
A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
I Thessalonians 5:11 (NCV)
Encourage each other and give each other strength.
6. REACH OUT TO HELP OTHERS.
II Corinthians 1:4 (NCV)
God comforts us every time we have trouble, so when others have trouble, we can comfort them with the same comfort God gives us.
We redeem our pain by using our experiences to help others.
CONCLUSION:
II Corinthians 5:17 (CEV)
Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new!
Song: Broken Things
You can have my heart
Though it isn’t new
It’s been used and broken
And only comes in blue
It’s been down a long road
And it got dirty on the way
If I give it to you, will you make it clean
And wash the shame away
