Haiti Service Project
Youthfront, a Christian organization in Kansas City that I’ve worked a lot with in the past, is mobilizing teams of students around Kansas City to tangibly bless God's hurting children in Haiti, in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake.
As the first wave of relief comes on the ground to supply Haiti's most urgent needs, Youthfront and their distribution partners in Haiti are preparing to send a secondary tier of aid. This will more efficiently reach the most vulnerable people after the current relief efforts resolve the initial bottlenecks of distribution. These measured efforts will help to sustainably and responsibly address the continuing hunger that will persist over the next critical weeks and months.
Youthfront is inviting church groups to package thousands of meal packets - consisting of rice, dried vegetables, soy protein, and essential vitamins in order to distribute them to Haiti through their Feed the Hunger initiative. Groups will gather in Youthfront’s auditorium in Shawnee Mission to package meals over the next few weeks.
It costs $.20 to package and ship each meal. A preteen can probably package 125 meals in about an hour so the cost of those meals would be $25.
One of the most important things we can do for our preteens is provide opportunities for them to respond to the needs of others in tangible ways.
To that end, our children’s ministry is hosting a Feed the Hungry service project for all 5th and 6th graders on Sunday, January 31.
To help your children explain this project to others and raise the $25 shipping costs, download and use this fundraising flyer.
